If claims about which character traits are environmental virtues are to be more than rhetoric, there must be some basis or standard for evaluation. This naturalistic, teleological, pluralistic, and inclusive account of what makes a character trait an environmental virtue can be such a standard. It is naturalistic because it is consistent with and motivated by scientific naturalism.

The US is an increasingly urban country. As a consequence of this, generations of children are growing up having had limited to no contact with the natural world. We now have a need to stay within a 2 degrees Celcius limit if we are to avoid disastrous effects. As well as reducing emission, negative emission could be possible through methods such as reforestation. Given our current situation, school systems now include lesson plan that teach environmental awareness to children, introducing them to ecological problems and concepts early on. However, we may ask ourselves how these children, whose are increasingly segregated from the natural world they are being taught about can possibly care or relate to it. I would agree that it is, however we must ask ourselves exactly why this is a problem.
